Our Namesake

        Daniel Cooper
 

Daniel Cooper was born August 20, 1745 to George Cooper and Margaret Lafferty in Morris County, New Jersey.

​

He is buried in Woodland Cemetery.

​

Margaret Frazier, Daniel Cooper Chapter Regent, 1980-82, stated "The chapter name was chosen to honor Daniel Cooper to whom Dayton owes more than any of the founders. He rescued the city financially in its darkest hour. He laid out the streets, and provided sites for the churches, schools, and library."
